Henri de Lagardère (Jean Marais) wants one thing after his friend Duke de Nevers is cut down by assassins he could not fight off: the men responsible, one at a time, at the point of a sword. First he takes the Duke's infant daughter to Spain with his old companion Passepoil (Bourvil). André Hunebelle sends him back to France again and again, and the man who ordered the killing, Philippe de Gonzague (François Chaumette), is still out there, still free.
