“He's not as fast as he used to be... That's what makes him human. He's a bounty hunter... And that's what makes him dangerous.”

Ralph "Papa" Thorson (Steve McQueen) has brought in more than 5,000 fugitives, and he chases the next ones across Illinois, Texas and Nebraska while a psychotic killer starts hunting him in return. Buzz Kulik adapts Christopher Keane's biography of the real bounty hunter, working from Thorson's long career. The bond that matters most is between Ralph and Dotty (Kathryn Harrold), who has to share her life with a man who is always out on the road.
