“It was 1973, and the climate was changing.”

Ben Hood (Kevin Kline) wants out of the quiet of his New Canaan marriage, and over Thanksgiving weekend in 1973 he is seeing Janey Carver (Sigourney Weaver), the wife next door. His wife Elena (Joan Allen) and daughter Wendy (Christina Ricci) are drifting through their own private habits of escape. Ang Lee lets both families edge toward the worst ice storm in a century, each holding a marriage, a household and a family name they cannot afford to lose.
