Vincenzo Giordano Orsini (Toni Servillo) is a loyal officer at Garibaldi's side in 1860, as the Thousand land at Marsala and begin fighting the far larger Bourbon army. Roberto Andò sets Giuseppe Garibaldi (Tommaso Ragno) at the head of young idealists from every region of Italy. Palermo lies behind the enemy lines, and the general has to break through before the retreat begins.
