Doctor Parnassus (Christopher Plummer) is immortal, and he wants one thing: to win a bet he made with the devil by delivering five souls through the mirror at the back of his travelling stage. Tony (Heath Ledger), a stranger the troupe has pulled out of trouble, agrees to help, and Terry Gilliam sends audiences through the glass into worlds shaped by their own heads. Valentina (Lily Cole) is Parnassus's daughter, and his hold on her is tied up in the bargain.
