The Insect Woman

Why does the same life keep repeating itself? Tome Matsuki (Sachiko Hidari) is born in 1918 to a poor family in Japan, and every attempt she makes to climb out of that life starts to look like the last one. Shōhei Imamura follows her through the decades, and Hidari is seen mostly in small moments of work and bargaining, the title's insect crawling the same circle.
