With few options left, Ellis French (Jeremy Pope) walks into Marine Corps boot camp, a young gay Black man turned out by his mother, Inez (Gabrielle Union). Elegance Bratton, drawing on his own years in the service, puts him under drill instructors like Laws (Bokeem Woodbine) and among recruits who size him up fast. Ellis takes every order and every humiliation, hoping the uniform will finally earn him a place.
