The Inspector General

(1949)Directed by Henry Koster101 minComedy, Romance
“The Kaye way to chaos and corruption.”

Georgi (Danny Kaye) can't read and doesn't have much to his name, just a place in a traveling medicine show. He wanders into a town and is picked up for vagrancy, only for the officials, led by the Mayor (Gene Lockhart), to decide he is the inspector general traveling in disguise. Henry Koster stages it in Technicolor with songs by Sylvia Fine, and Georgi goes along with every bow and every pocketful of attention, with no idea what the town is hiding from him.
