Sir Anthony Ross (Donald Sinden), a Victorian gentleman, sets out for the Arctic with a hired expedition to find his son Donald (David Gwillim), who vanished while hunting for a lost Viking community in a volcanic valley. Robert Stevenson puts Professor Ivarsson (David Hartman), a French captain, and an Inuit guide named Oomiak (Mako) aboard an airship with him. Ross has money, manners and a pocket full of maps, and he will not turn back.
