“Through DNA experimentation, Dr. Moreau has upset the balance of nature.”

Edward Douglas (David Thewlis), a United Nations attorney, survives a plane crash in a magnetic storm and washes up on an island nobody has charted. The people living there are not quite people, and Dr. Moreau (Marlon Brando) and his assistant Montgomery (Val Kilmer) have been combining human and animal DNA. John Frankenheimer adapts the H. G. Wells novel around one conviction: that a man who can rebuild living things will treat them as his to rewrite.
