The Japanese Wife
Snehamoy Chatterjee (Rahul Bose), a schoolteacher in a Bengali village, marries Miyage (Chigusa Takaku) by letter, exchanging vows with a Japanese pen friend he has never met. Fifteen years on they are still married on paper, and Aparna Sen follows the bond as a young widow, Sandhya (Raima Sen), arrives with her eight-year-old son Poltu. Snehamoy grows close to the boy and to Sandhya, while the wife he has never seen still holds his loyalty.
