The Jazz Singer
“Hear him sing Mammy, Toot Toot Tootsie, My Gal Sal, Mother I Still Have You.”
Jakie Rabinowitz (Al Jolson) sings in beer halls under a new name, and his father hears about it. Cantor Rabinowitz (Warner Oland) comes from a long line of cantors and expects his son to carry on that work in the synagogue. Alan Crosland's 1927 film is the first feature with synchronized singing and speech, and Jakie has to choose between his mother's kitchen and the stage.
