The Jazz Singer

(1980)Directed by Richard Fleischer115 min · PGDrama, Music, Romance
“His story will make you cry. His music will make you sing. His triumph will make you cheer.”

Yussel Rabinovitch (Neil Diamond) is a cantor's son who sings on stage under another name, and nobody at home is supposed to hear about it. His father (Laurence Olivier) expects him to carry on the old family tradition, while Richard Fleischer follows him between the two lives. If Yussel keeps singing as Jess Robin, he risks losing his family and the name he was born with.
