Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio), an Italian-American teenager new to Los Angeles, is targeted by karate bully Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka). A maintenance man named Mr. Miyagi (Pat Morita) offers to teach him karate, but insists on discipline that looks nothing like fighting. By the time Daniel realizes what Miyagi has actually been teaching him, he has to face Johnny in a tournament where the only way out is through.
