The Kentuckian

(1955)Directed by Burt Lancaster104 minWestern
“Hunter...Frontiersman...Adventurer!”

Elias Wakefield (Burt Lancaster) is a frontiersman who sets out with his young son, Little Eli (Donald MacDonald), to build a new home in Texas. Along the way they meet Hannah Bolen (Dianne Foster) and Susie Spann (Diana Lynn), and Stan Bodine (Walter Matthau) turns up in his first film role. Lancaster directed it himself, only the second time he did, and shot it in CinemaScope around Kentucky, at Cumberland Falls and beneath the Sky Bridge arch.
