The Key

“TOO HOT for Italian cinemas! Judges close down all theatres screening "THE KEY"!”

In Venice in 1940, after twenty years of marriage, Nino Rolfe (Frank Finlay), a retired art critic, sees his wife Teresa (Stefania Sandrelli) pulling away from him. He starts writing his fantasies in a diary, hoping the pages will free her from her inhibitions and bring back what the marriage has lost. Tinto Brass films the Rolfe household in close, unhurried detail, with the war and the fascist regime pressing in from outside.
