The King and Four Queens

(1956)Directed by Raoul Walsh86 minWestern, Comedy, Mystery, Adventure
“The King plays the hottest game in the West . . . with four Queens!”

Dan Kehoe (Clark Gable) is a drifter and con man who has heard there is gold hidden somewhere on the McDade ranch. To get at it, he works his way into the house of Ma McDade (Jo Van Fleet), a cantankerous old woman who lives there with her sons' widows, Sabina (Eleanor Parker), Ruby and Birdie. Raoul Walsh shot it on location in CinemaScope, and Gable sits at the family table with a smile on his face, being watched by every woman in the room.
