Louis XIV (Benoît Magimel), the young Sun King of France, has two passions: holding absolute power over a realm worn out by decades of religious and civil war, and dancing in the court ballets he performs himself. Gérard Corbiau follows the composer Jean-Baptiste Lully (Boris Terral), who becomes the king's closest ally. Lully shares the court with Molière (Tchéky Karyo) and a rival, Robert Cambert, while the Catholic establishment watches with suspicion.
