In 1927 Cecil B. DeMille set out to put the life of Jesus on screen with a cast of thousands and one of the biggest budgets Hollywood had spent. He opens with the exorcism of Mary Magdalene and follows H.B. Warner as Jesus, with Ernest Torrence as Peter and Joseph Schildkraut as Judas Iscariot, among the men who walk with him. The intertitles take their words straight from Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, and every step brings Jesus closer to the cross.
