The Kiss
“A woman made for love...sacrificed on the altar of a desperate passion...”
Irene (Greta Garbo) is unhappily married to Guarry (Anders Randolf), and a kiss she gives the young Pierre (Lew Ayres) is read as a love affair. Scandal follows, and then a murder, with Ardré (Conrad Nagel) and Lassalle (Holmes Herbert) drawn into it. Jacques Feyder's 1929 film carries no spoken dialogue, only a recorded score and sound effects, and Irene stays in the frame, silent and sorrowful.
