The Kneeling Goddess

(1947)Directed by Roberto Gavaldón99 minDrama, Romance, Thriller

Antonio (Arturo de Córdova) is a millionaire who gives his wife Elena (Rosario Granados) a statue of a naked, kneeling woman for their wedding anniversary. Roberto Gavaldón shot it at Estudios Churubusco in Mexico City, with sets by Manuel Fontanals, and Raquel (María Félix) is the one the statue draws into the marriage. What the film sets out is how one object can sit between two people until the house holds more longing than the couple can say.
