The L-Shaped Room

(1962)Directed by Bryan Forbes126 minDrama, Romance
“Sex is not a forbidden word”

Jane Fosset (Leslie Caron) is young, French, pregnant and unmarried, and she rents a cheap room in a London boarding house to wait out the months ahead. She has no plans to marry the baby's father or end the pregnancy, and she soon finds herself among her odd neighbors, among them Toby (Tom Bell), a young man down the hall. Bryan Forbes films the cramped rooms and shared stairways plainly, letting the actors play it quietly and without show.
