The Lady and the Duke

Grace Elliot (Lucy Russell), an English aristocrat living in Paris as the Revolution closes in, keeps to her routines and her friendship with the Duke of Orléans (Jean-Claude Dreyfus). When a fugitive needs hiding, she takes him in, knowing it could cost her freedom and her life. Éric Rohmer stages the streets and the Terror against painted backdrops, so the city looks like a canvas of the period.
