The Lady from Shanghai

(1947)Directed by Orson Welles87 minMystery, Crime, Thriller, Drama
“I told you... you know nothing about wickedness”

In 1947, Michael O'Hara (Orson Welles), a drifting sailor, takes a job on the yacht of a corrupt tycoon and his wife. Elsa Bannister (Rita Hayworth) is the wife, and Arthur Bannister (Everett Sloane) is the husband, with George Grisby (Glenn Anders) hovering close. Welles directs Hayworth as the lady of the title, and her face fills the frame, pale and still, with nothing around it but his own slow-moving voice.
