In 1957, a Navy expedition flies toward Little America in Antarctica to investigate a warm-water lake reported a decade earlier. Commander Alan Roberts (Jock Mahoney) and reporter Maggie Hathaway (Shirley Patterson) are aboard a helicopter that a fierce storm forces down into a volcanic crater. Virgil W.
