A blacksmith in Pompeii turns to the arena for money, and the fighting makes him rich enough to climb well above the forge. Ernest B. Schoedsack directs Marcus (Preston Foster), whose new standing is tested by his son's Christianity, with Basil Rathbone as Pontius Pilate and the volcano Vesuvius looming over the city. Wealth, a father's pride and a son's faith pull in different directions, and none of them can be bought off.
