The Last Metro

(1980)Directed by François Truffaut131 min · PGDrama, Romance, War
“A story of love and conflict.”

Lucas Steiner, the Jewish owner of a Paris theater, has vanished, and everyone in the company has been told he fled the country. His wife Marion (Catherine Deneuve) keeps the theater open under the Occupation, casting a new play with Bernard Granger (Gérard Depardieu) while running both of their jobs. Truffaut keeps her moving between the stage and the rehearsal rooms, a woman who cannot let her face show what she knows.
