The Last of England

A young man in a ruined London warehouse sits and writes, while soldiers and masked figures move through the dark around him. The Maid (Tilda Swinton) appears among them, one of several roles Spencer Leigh and others pass between. There is no plot and almost no dialogue, and Derek Jarman cuts rough Super 8 footage of his own into hard, grainy images that feel closer to private poetry than to a story.
