“Anarene, Texas, 1951. Nothing much has changed…”

Sonny Crawford (Timothy Bottoms) and Duane Jackson (Jeff Bridges) are high school seniors in a dying north Texas town, where Duane dates the prettiest girl and Sonny is sleeping with the coach's wife. Peter Bogdanovich sets it between November 1951 and October 1952, with graduation coming and the army or a local business as the only ways forward. The picture show stays open on its main street, one of the few places left where the boys can still sit together.
