“From An Age of Conflict...A Film For The Ages!”

The Thirty Years' War has burned through the German states, yet one small valley has somehow been left alone. Vogel (Omar Sharif), a teacher fleeing the fighting, finds it, and the Captain (Michael Caine) follows with a band of mercenaries who see a place to winter and take what they need. James Clavell shot it in 70mm Todd-AO, giving the villagers and their occupiers wide mountain air to share.
