Cliff Henderson (Robert Stack) has one aim once the boiler room explodes aboard the S. S. Claridon: get his wife Laurie (Dorothy Malone) out from under the steel beam pinning her in their cabin. Andrew L. Stone sends him through the failing ship with crewman Hank Lawson (Woody Strode) while Captain Adams (George Sanders) hesitates over the order to evacuate. Everyone aboard is racing the water, and a man's love for his wife is measured in minutes.
