The Late Mathias Pascal
In a small provincial town in the 1920s, Mathias Pascal (Ivan Mosjoukine), the last son of a once-rich family, marries Romilde (Marcelle Pradot) and moves into a house ruled by her mother. His own mother and his baby are the only light he has, and both die on the same day. He leaves for Monte Carlo and wins a fortune at the casino, then reads his own obituary in a newspaper on the way home. Marcel L'Herbier adapts Pirandello's novel as a silent film.
