The Late Shift

“Two heads fighting for the late night crown - One head's gotta roll.”

David Letterman (John Michael Higgins) wants the chair Johnny Carson is about to leave empty at "The Tonight Show," and so does Jay Leno (Daniel Roebuck). Leno's manager, Helen Kushnick (Kathy Bates), pushes his claim hard, while NBC executives like Warren Littlefield (Bob Balaban) try to decide between them. Betty Thomas shot it for HBO in 1996, and in the end the whole contest comes down to one desk and one stage.
