The Lavender Hill Mob

(1951)Directed by Charles Crichton78 minComedy, Crime
“The men who broke the bank and lost the cargo!”

Henry Holland (Alec Guinness), a meek bank clerk, spends his days overseeing the gold bullion shipments, and he has decided to steal a van's worth. He recruits his boardinghouse neighbor Albert Pendlebury (Stanley Holloway) and two thieves, Lackery Wood (Sidney James) and Shorty Fisher (Alfie Bass). Charles Crichton keeps the Ealing comedy hurrying along, and everything the gang has saved or hoped for rides on a plan that has to work the first time.
