Frank Walton (Mark Duplass) is a medical researcher who has found a way to bring the dead back, and he is engaged to Zoe McConnell (Olivia Wilde), who works beside him on it. When their dean learns of an unsanctioned experiment on an animal and shuts the project down, they are pushed into one more attempt. David Gelb builds the film on the notion that some losses are ones people will do anything to reverse, even when they should not.
