Young Ip Man (Dennis To Yu-Hang) wants to learn Wing Chun, the kung fu style he will one day be known for, and his journey starts with a first teacher and the long work of basic training. Herman Yau follows him from those early lessons toward the fight that decides who becomes supreme master of the art. Under the fighting is a plain idea: a gift only turns into mastery through years of patient practice.
