The Legend of the Holy Drinker

Andreas Kartak (Rutger Hauer) sleeps under the bridges of Paris until a well-dressed stranger (Anthony Quayle) hands him 200 francs, asking only that he return the money to a local church when he can. Kartak means to do it. Ermanno Olmi follows him from one day to the next as the drink and the small accidents of the street keep getting between him and the church door, and he keeps trying anyway.
