Pirates seize a lighthouse on a rocky South Atlantic island and start luring ships onto the rocks to strip the wrecks. Will Denton (Kirk Douglas), the only man of the lighthouse crew left alive, fights back against Jonathan Kongre (Yul Brynner) and his gang, with a shipwrecked young woman, Arabella (Samantha Eggar), now caught in the middle.
