A defense lawyer named Mickey Haller (Matthew McConaughey) runs his practice from the back seat of a Lincoln Town Car, taking cases no one else wants. He lands a high-profile client, Louis Roulet (Ryan Phillippe), accused of assault, and the evidence seems thin until Mickey uncovers a connection to an unsolved murder from years back. As the case pulls him deeper, Mickey finds himself caught between what the law allows and what the truth demands.
