The Little House

After Taki's death, her young relative Takeshi (Satoshi Tsumabuki) finds several pages of closely written lines in which the childless old woman set down her memories. They tell him about her youth as a housemaid and nanny for the Hirai family, in a small house in Tokyo with a red gabled roof. Yoji Yamada, adapting Kyoko Nakajima's novel, keeps the whole film close to those handwritten pages.
