“Before the Fall of the Berlin Wall, East Germany's Secret Police Listened to Your Secrets.”

Captain Gerd Wiesler (Ulrich Mühe), a Stasi surveillance operative in East Berlin, monitors the playwright Georg Dreyman (Sebastian Koch) and his lover, the actress Christa-Maria Sieland (Martina Gedeck). Wiesler installs microphones in their apartment and listens from a cramped post, cataloging their conversations. But as he hears their private moments, what he learns could destroy them both.
