The Loner

Commissioner Stan Jalard (Jean-Paul Belmondo) and his partner Simon were weeks from quitting the Paris police for a quiet life in the West Indies when they spotted the gangster Schneider (Jean-Pierre Malo) in a nightclub. Simon was shot dead at close range during the arrest, so Stan stayed on, and he now looks after Simon's young son Christian. Jacques Deray leaves Stan two years later in the same city, with Schneider back in it and the boy's photograph kept close.
