The Long Gray Line

(1955)Directed by John Ford138 minComedy, Drama
“Warms Your Heart! STIRS YOUR BLOOD! and fires your imagination!”

Martin Maher (Tyrone Power) is an Irish immigrant who takes a dishwashing job at West Point and, without much of a plan, simply never leaves. John Ford follows him through fifty years of cadets, a marriage to Mary O'Donnell (Maureen O'Hara), and a stint as an athletic instructor, all in CinemaScope and Technicolor. Each class he trains eventually graduates and moves on, and Martin is left carrying more of them with him every year.
