The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring

“One ring to rule them all.”

A plain gold ring passes from the old hobbit Bilbo (Ian Holm) to his nephew Frodo (Elijah Wood), and Gandalf (Ian McKellen) learns it is the work of an evil far older than the Shire. Frodo has to leave home with it, and a fellowship gathers around him, Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen) and Sam (Sean Astin) among them, bound for Mt. Doom, the one place it can be destroyed. Peter Jackson films Tolkien's Middle-earth as a working country, with real distances to walk.
