Middle-earth after the breaking of the Fellowship is a country split into separate roads, and Peter Jackson follows each of them. Frodo (Elijah Wood) and Sam (Sean Astin) head toward Mordor with Gollum (Andy Serkis) as their guide, while Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen) and Gandalf (Ian McKellen) turn toward Saruman at Orthanc. The Ring still has to be destroyed, and every road now leads toward a fortress that will not wait.
