The Lost Weekend

(1945)Directed by Billy Wilder101 minDrama
“The screen dares to open the strange and savage pages of a shocking bestseller!”

Ten days sober, Don Birnam (Ray Milland) should be past the worst of it, so why does he slip out of the country weekend his brother Wick (Phillip Terry) and his girlfriend Helen (Jane Wyman) have planned for him? What follows is four days of bars and bottles, and Don knows it might be the last bender of his life, one way or another. Billy Wilder films New York at street level, close on Don's face, and gives the film noir shadows to a man whose only enemy is a drink.
