The Love Parade

(1929)Directed by Ernst Lubitsch107 minComedy, Romance
“He sang himself into the Queen's boudoir! One kiss and the whole kingdom was his!”

Count Alfred Renard (Maurice Chevalier) is a courtier who wants a wife, and the wife he gets is Queen Louise (Jeanette MacDonald) of the mythical kingdom of Sylvania. He promises to be an obedient husband, but being the queen's consort turns out to be a post with no real work in it. Ernst Lubitsch sets the two against each other in a marriage where she holds the crown and he keeps wanting a role of his own.
