Victor Pivert (Louis de Funès) is a loud, bigoted French factory owner who has his daughter's wedding to think about. Then Slimane (Claude Giraud), an Arab rebel leader, takes him hostage, and Gérard Oury dresses the two men as rabbis to dodge assassins and police who think Pivert is a murderer. Mistaken for the visiting Rabbi Jacob, Pivert has a whole Parisian neighborhood waiting to welcome him, and a wife who believes he is leaving her.
