A fortune teller in a market square gives a boy an answer that makes no sense: to learn whether his sister is alive, he must find an elephant and the magician who will conjure it. Peter (Noah Jupe) takes the answer seriously, since it is the only one he has. Wendy Rogers sends him after three seemingly impossible tasks, and if he fails, the town stays as it is and his sister stays lost.
