Compasses and clocks have started misbehaving across Los Angeles, and radioactivity is climbing for no reason anyone can find. Dr. Jeffrey Stewart (Richard Carlson) and Dr. Dan Forbes (King Donovan) of the Office of Scientific Investigations trace it to a man-made isotope that feeds on nearby mass and doubles in size every few hours. Curt Siodmak builds a story around a plain fact: a scientist's own creation can outgrow him.
